Join your friends and neighbors in receiving Hanover County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training this fall!
The CERT team consists of citizens who help during times of emergencies. Basic CERT training classes will be held on Wednesday nights beginning September 25 through October 16 as well as on Saturday, October 5 at the Farrington Fire Station (14582 Mountain Road, Glen Allen VA 23059).
The Farrington Fire Station is located at 14582 Mountain Road, Glen Allen, VA 23059.
These classes are free. You must be 18 years of age. Times are from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. for the Saturday class on October 5. Attendance at all sessions is necessary for graduation. There is no physical requirement for this hands-on class.
You will learn about the origins of CERT, how to identify risks in your home and neighborhood, disaster preparedness, fire extinguishers, basic first aid and light search & rescue, among other subjects. Over 200 Hanover residents have already taken this class and more than 50 have gone on to join the CERT Unit as volunteers under Hanover Fire/EMS. Members assist in events and, with higher training, can also be deployed to incidents such as search and rescue, traffic control, etc.
