A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site of the Atlee Library on Wednesday, May 15, and construction is underway.
The library, which will be located in Rutland at the corner of U.S. Rt. 301 and Rutlandshire Drive, is expected to open by the summer of 2020. It will replace the current storefront library in the Atlee Square Shopping Center.
The new Atlee Library represents a partnership between the Pamunkey Regional Library Board and the County. Speaking at the May 15 ceremony were Angela Kelly-Wiecek and W. Canova Peterson of the Board of Supervisors and Joe O’Connor, Chairman of the Pamunkey Regional Library Board.
