[ARCHIVED] Be Ready to Help Your Neighbors and Friends if Emergency Strikes

Are you prepared for an emergency? Do you want to learn how to help your family and neighbors when and if an emergency strikes? Join your friends and neighbors in receiving Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training this fall.

In October, Basic CERT training classes will be held at the Ashcake Volunteer Rescue Squad located at 8375 New Ashcake Road, Mechanicsville VA  23116.

These classes are free.  They will be held each Monday night in October from 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.  The dates are October 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.  Attendance at all is necessary for graduation.

You will learn about the origins of CERT, how to identify risks in your home and neighborhood, disaster preparedness, fir extinguishers, basic first aid and light search & rescue, among other subjects.  Over 200 Hanover residents have already taken this class and more then 50 have gone on to join the CERT Unit as volunteers under Hanover Fire/EMS.  Members assist in events and, with higher training, can also be deployed to incidents such as search and rescue, traffic control, etc.

The minimum age limit for the class is 17 and requires a parent/guardian attending the sessions.  There is no physical requirement for this hands-on class.

To sign up, please e-mail [email protected].  The registration deadline is Monday, September 24.
