Hanover County Administrator, Cecil R. Harris Jr., has proposed a $463
million County Budget for the Fiscal Year beginning July 1. The all-funds budget
represents a 4.6% increase from the current year. No property tax rate changes
are proposed.
Most of the County’s budget is spent on Education and Public
Safety. A 2% compensation increase is proposed for all County and School
employees with strong job performance.
Of the new positions in the non-schools part of the budget, 14 are
in public safety, including 5 new deputy sheriff positions and 5 Fire/EMS
positions. The additional Fire/EMS personnel will provide 24/7 support for the
Black Creek Fire Department.
Major capital construction projects funded in the FY19 budget
include a new Atlee Library and a new park in Cold Harbor.
After hearing Harris’ proposal on February 14, the Board of
Supervisors also received presentations from the Sheriff, School Superintendent
and Fire Chief.
A public hearing on the County Administrator’s proposed budget will be
held on April 4 at 7 p.m.
