Lock and Talk

Lock & Talk promotes the safe and responsible care of guns, medications and other lethal means a person may use to attempt suicide.

The goal of the Lock & Talk program is to prevent suicide through lethal means reduction, as it’s been found to be the most effective way to prevent suicide attempts and completion.

We encourage families to Lock Meds, Lock Guns, and Talk Often about mental health and suicide to save lives and reduce stigma.

The Hanover County Community Services Board provides cable locks for guns and medication lock boxes to families caring for a person who is having thoughts of suicide.

If you or someone you love has thoughts of suicide, we can help. Contact our crisis team at 804-365-4200 to talk with a mental health professional and find out how to get a free cable lock or medication lock box.
