Notice of Data Breach of Hanover County Online Public Utilities & Building Inspection Payment System

Hanover County was recently notified that credit card information used to make online payments through the Hanover’s Central Square Click2Gov system had been compromised.  Payments made over the phone and automatic withdrawals were not affected; only payments made online between August 1, 2018 and January 9, 2019 through the Click2Gov portal were compromised. There are six ways to pay your bill:



Online Through Your Bank's Bill Payment Service

  • Payment can take up to five business days to process. There is no additional charge for making a payment this way.

Automatic Withdrawal


By Mail

  • Mail payment to:
    Hanover County Department of Public Utilities
    P.O. Box 470
    Hanover, VA 23069
  • Include the remittance stub from your bill. If you do not have your remittance stub, write your account number on your check before mailing.
  • If you do not know your account number, call 804-365-6024.

In Person

  • We are in the Administration Building located at:
    7516 County Complex Road
    Hanover, VA 23069
  • Our office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • We accept:
    • Checks
    • Debit and/or Credit Cards (A convenience fee will be charged for using a credit card. There is no fee for using a debit card.): American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and VISA
  • Cash can only be accepted at the Treasurer's Office, located at 7507 Library Drive in the Chenault-Weems Building. The Treasurer's Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • We also have a drop box located in our office and behind the Wickham Building. The Wickham Building's drop box is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Online Using a Credit or Debit Card 

  • You will be charged a convenience fee for paying online with a credit or debit card (Temporarily unavailable) .
  • You must have your account number to use this option.
  • Payment is received in our office the following business day.
  • The website accepts the following debit and/or credit cards:
    • American Express
    • Discover
    • MasterCard
    • VISA
  • Once you have paid and received a confirmation number, a confirmation number will also be sent to our office.
  • You do not have to register to make a one time payment. You may instead select online payments.

By Phone

  • Call 804-365-6024.
  • Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • You will be charged a convenience fee for using this option.
  • You must have your account number to use this option.
  • Your account number can be found on your water and sewer bill. Enter the first half before the dash, press pound, then enter the second half and press pound again.
  • You will be able to make a payment after hearing your account information.
  • Payment is received in our office immediately.
