Paying Water & Sewer Bills

There are six ways to pay your bill:

Online Through Your Bank's Bill Payment Service


  • Payment can take up to five business days to process. There is no additional charge for making a payment this way.

Automatic Withdrawal


By Mail

  • Mail payment to:
    Hanover County Department of Public Utilities
    P.O. Box 470
    Hanover, VA 23069
  • Include the remittance stub from your bill. If you do not have your remittance stub, write your account number on your check before mailing.
  • If you do not know your account number, call 804-365-6024.

In Person

  • We are in the Administration Building located at:
    7516 County Complex Road
    Hanover, VA 23069
  • Our office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • We accept:
    • Checks
    • Debit and/or Credit Cards (A convenience fee will be charged for using a credit card. There is no fee for using a debit card.): American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and VISA
  • Cash can only be accepted at the Treasurer's Office, located at 7497 County Complex Road in the Wickham Building. The Treasurer's Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • We also have a drop box located in our office and behind the Wickham Building. The Wickham Building's drop box is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Online Using a Credit or Debit Card 

  • You will be charged a convenience fee for paying online with a credit or debit card.
  • You must have your account number to use this option.
  • Payment is received in our office the following business day.
  • The website accepts the following debit and/or credit cards:
    • American Express
    • Discover
    • MasterCard
    • VISA
  • Once you have paid and received a confirmation number, a confirmation number will also be sent to our office.
  • You do not have to register to make a one time payment. You may instead select online payments.

  • Call 804-365-6024.
  • Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • You will be charged a convenience fee for using this option.
  • You must have your account number to use this option.
  • Your account number can be found on your water and sewer bill. Enter the first half before the dash, press pound, then enter the second half and press pound again.
  • You will be able to make a payment after hearing your account information.
  • Payment is received in our office immediately.
