Real Estate Tax Relief

Real estate tax relief is a discount for citizens who meet the income and net worth requirements. The discount applies to the taxes for the house and up to 10 acres of land.


  • Applicant must be 65 years old or totally and permanently disabled
  • Applicant must be an owner or partial owner of the property
  • Applicant must live on the property
  • The gross combined net income limit is $55,000. Income of relatives, other than the spouse, living in the house must be included in the gross income
  • The net worth limit is $300,000 and does not include the value of the house and up to 10 acres

Application Process

Applications are filed annually and are due on March 1. All information on the application is kept confidential.

For taxpayers applying as disabled, certification of the disability is required. Any of the following options are acceptable:
  • Statement from Railroad Retirement Board
  • Statement from Social Security Administration
  • Statement from Veterans Administration
  • Sworn affidavit from 2 medical doctors
