Copy Requests

You may obtain copies from Hanover County's Circuit Court Clerk's Office of any public record such as deeds, plats, wills, judgments, court orders and marriage licenses.
 

Fees


The cost is 50 cents per page. There is an additional charge of $2 per certified copy.

In Person

  • We accept cash, check or money order

Mail Requests


All requests should include:
  • Self-addressed stamped envelope
  • Check or money order payable to Hanover Circuit Court Clerk
  • Mailing address:
    • Hanover County Circuit Court Clerk's Office
      Attention: Copies

  • Letter with specific information:
    • Marriage licenses:
      • Include the full names of the bride and groom and the date of the marriage
    • Land records:
      • Include the deed book and page or instrument number
    • Court orders:
      • Include case number, names of parties to litigation, order book and page or instrument number

You can request copies online by visiting the ClerkePass website:
  • Payment by MasterCard or VISA
  • Specifically identify the document to be copied (names, book and page or instrument number)
  • There is an additional charge for obtaining copies online

Finding Identifying Information About a Document You Want Copied


You may need information that you do not have at hand to identify the document. Clerk's staff may be able to help you by phone, 804-365-6120 or 804-365-6150, to find information for the following public records:
  • Court orders such as divorce decrees entered since April 2002
  • Land records (deeds, plats, deeds of trust, etc.) recorded since 1975
  • Marriage licenses issued since 2000
Often times you can find the deed book and page number where the deed to your property is recorded by accessing Hanover County Geographic Information Access System.

Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Requests for Records
