Leaves & Grass

Unbagged leaves and grass are collected and separated for composting at Mechanicsville, Courthouse and Elmont Convenience Centers and the Route 301 Transfer Station.


Brush & Tree Stumps

The Route 301 Transfer Station and the Mechanicsville Convenience Center accept brush that is less than 4 inches diameter and 6 feet long. 


Trees and stumps are not accepted at any convenience center or the Route 301 Transfer Station.


However, logs/limbs between 4 inches and 12 inches in diameter and less than 6 feet in length are accepted at the Route 301 Transfer Station only at the commercial disposal fee.


Compost

Category One Compost is made by Hanover County from leaves and grass. The compost has been tested by the nationally accredited Woods End Lab and received its high rating of Garden/Topsoil Compost which allows for any use. The compost is available at the Route 301 Transfer Station at a loaded rate of $10 per cubic yard with a minimum of five cubic yards. Always call 804-365-3220 to check on availability.
