Park Rules

Prohibited Activities

For your safety and overall park experience, the following activities are prohibited on park property:
  • Fishing in non-designated areas or not in accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia fishing laws
  • Creating ground fires and all other fires not in a grill
  • Utilizing portable grills in non-designated grilling areas
  • The possession or use of alcoholic beverages
  • The possession or use of illegal drugs and any illegal activity
  • Hunting
  • Use of profanity
  • Use of glass containers
  • Horseback riding (with the exception of Washington Lacy Park and designated areas at Pole Green Park)
  • Bringing animals that are not kept on a leash
  • Metal detecting
  • Golfing
  • Any collection of fees without written permission from the Parks and Recreation Director
  • Driving motorized vehicles or bicycles on turf/field areas or in other unauthorized areas
  • The use of tents, except un-staked 10-foot by 10-foot canopy-type tents
  • The use of blow-up slides/inflatable type activities
  • Creating excessive amplified sound
  • Rocket launching
  • Hot air ballooning
  • Flying of model or radio controlled airplanes (with the exception of designated areas at Courthouse Park)

Additional Notes

Please be advised that:
  • All areas other than the reserved park amenities shall be available to the public on a first come, first served basis at no charge
  • Fishing is permitted in accordance with Virginia fishing laws in Hanover parks, as posted
  • All fires must be in a grill; ground fires are strictly prohibited
  • Hanover County will not be held responsible for any loss or theft during the use of park facilities
  • County-owned parks are supervised by the parks and recreation department and are patrolled by the sheriff's department as well as the Virginia State Police

Shelters Rental Rules

  • Shelter attendance shall not exceed maximum capacity stated on Shelter Rental Application (PDF)
  • Cleanup or damage to the park shelter and/or event area is the responsibility of the applicant, and you will be billed if necessary
  • The applicant is responsible for damages, accidents and injuries. The applicant agrees to hold Hanover County harmless from any and all accidents and injuries occurring during the use of park facilities
