Park Information

Important COVID-19 Update:

In conjunction with the executive orders of the Governor implementing Phase III of the Forward Virginia plan, as of July 1 2020, all permitted use of athletic fields, picnic shelters and historic sites has resumed. Other areas of Hanover County parks remain open, including open spaces, trails and dog parks.

Be advised that amenities throughout the parks are not sanitized, so use with caution and follow the CDC health and safety guidelines. We reiterate the critical importance of flowing physical distancing guidelines and avoidance of gatherings and group activities.


Athletic Facility Rentals

Athletic field lighting provides extended hours on most fields at Pole Green Park, Courthouse Park, and Montpelier Park until 11 p.m. and at Poor Farm Park until 10 p.m.

Shelter Rentals

Shelter areas are open throughout the entire year during daylight hours only. Charcoal grills are located on-site, portable grills are permitted in designated grilling areas only.

Inclement Weather & Field Status Updates

All County parks will close as necessary during inclement weather conditions. From March - November, the Department updates daily the athletic field hotline 804-365-4698 with information on field closures. Parks and Recreation also posts field status updates to the Department's Facebook and Twitter pages:

Mobile Food Vendor

Parks and Recreation is excited to partner with mobile food vendors to enhance park patrons' experiences. Mobile food vendors may purchase permits to operate at Courthouse Park, Pole Green Park, and / or Poor Farm Park during the following seasons: March - July and August - December.

Contributions to Parks

Donations from civic organizations, businesses, other organizations, and individuals help our parks grow. Email us for information about service projects, volunteer opportunities and gifts to our parks.
