Parks and Recreation offers over 1,500 acres of parkland throughout Hanover County, with beautiful trails, historic landmarks, athletic fields, relaxing shelters as well as safe accessible playgrounds. The Department boasts a wide range of yearlong events and programs for all ages and interests.
Important COVID-19 Update:
In an effort to take necessary steps to protect our community, the following are closed or cancelled until further notice: all permitted use of athletic fields, picnic shelters and historic sites. Additionally, all department-sponsored programs and activities are cancelled. As announced on March 24, we have made the difficult decision to suspend spring program registrations and are postponing summer program and camp registration indefinitely.
In conjunction with the executive orders of the Governor implementing Phase I of the Forward Virginia plan, effective May 15, the park playgrounds and Pole Green skate park will be reopened. Other areas of Hanover County parks remain open, including open spaces, trails and dog parks. Be advised that amenities throughout the parks are not sanitized, so use with caution and follow the CDC health and safety guidelines. We reiterate the critical importance of flowing physical distancing guidelines and avoidance of gatherings and group activities.
