Hanover County held a community meeting on a plan for a new fire station, Fire Station No. 17, on May 26, 2022 at Laurel Meadow Elementary School. The purpose of this meeting was to share with the public information about the plan, process, and a timeline for the project. The new station is planned to be located on a section of property between the Laurel Meadow Elementary School facilities and Lee-Davis Road. On July 27, 2022 the Board of Supervisors accepted the donation of 3.5 acres in surplus property from the School Board for the purpose of constructing this facility.

On July 27, 2022 the Board of Supervisors accepted the donation of 3.5 acres in surplus property from the School Board for the construction of this facility. The Planning Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the conditional use permit on October 20. The Board plans to hold a public hearing on November 9.
