Mechanicsville District School Board Appointment

Board receives nine nominations for Mechanicsville District School Board seat

The Hanover County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing April 27 seeking nominations for the School Board seat representing the Mechanicsville District. Nine names were officially submitted for consideration. Any person who wished to be considered for a School Board seat was required to have their name placed in nomination at the public hearing.

Those seeking the appointment must live within the Mechanicsville magisterial district to serve in the position. School Board members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors to serve four-year terms. Each of Hanover’s seven election districts has a member on the School Board, which sets policy for the Hanover County Public School system.

Supervisor W. Canova Peterson, who represents the Mechanicsville District, asked that each candidate contact him as soon as possible to set up interviews. He also requested the candidates bring a concise resume to the interview. Each candidate will have equal time to share why they believe they should be appointed to the seat. After all interviews are complete, Mr. Peterson will make a recommendation to the full Board of Supervisors. The Board is expected to vote and appoint the Mechanicsville School Board representative at its meeting on Wednesday, May 25. Mr. Peterson can be reached at [email protected] or 804-338-1448.
