Hanover County Parks and Recreation is committed to providing high-quality, accessible, and diverse parks and recreation services to the community. The Department is in the process of updating its Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which identifies existing resources and explores the evolving needs of the community over the next ten years. The plan will serve as a roadmap that will guide future decision-making and development opportunities. The Master Plan process will be heavily dependent on community input provided by citizens and will include several engagement opportunities over the next several months.
Public input meetings will be held in all seven magisterial districts in an open house meeting style format, inviting the public to participate from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Citizens are encouraged to attend and provide input on parks, recreation facilities, and programs. Feel free to attend one or more meetings to share ideas and comments, helping to identify needs and opportunities across the community.
The process of updating the department's Master Plan includes the following phases:
Inventory and analyze existing facilities
Inventory and analyze existing programs
Seek and evaluate community input
Compile data, strategy, and statistics into cohesive final document
Seek adoption of final plan document from Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission, Hanover Planning Commission, and Hanover County Board of Supervisors
