I have misplaced my vaccination card, how can I get a copy of it?  

If you have misplaced your vaccination card or realize there is incorrect information on the card, there is now a helpdesk to assist in replacing misplaced/incorrect COVID vaccine cards: call 866-375-9795 or email [email protected]

How can I schedule an appointment to receive my COVID-19 vaccine?

Those who live or work in Hanover, Goochland, New Kent or Charles City can fill out the Chickahominy Vaccine Clinic Availability Survey and be scheduled directly for an appointment.

Where can I get my 16 or 17 year old vaccinated?  

The only vaccine currently approved for those ages 16 and 17 is the Pfizer vaccine.  Our clinics are currently only offering the Moderna vaccine.  However, the Chickahominy Health District is requesting supply of the Pfizer vaccine for those falling between the ages of 16 and 17, who are now eligible.  The Chickahominy Health district will contact those individuals in that age group who are currently on the waiting list.  They will also be working with schools to identify others who may be interested in getting vaccinated.   

In the meantime, you also have the option of checking with your pediatrician.  Many area pediatrician offices are offering the Pfizer vaccine to those who are eligible.  Additionally, you may also use vaccinefinder.org to locate providers/pharmacies who have Pfizer in stock near you.   

Who is currently eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine?  

If you live or work in Hanover, Charles City, New Kent or Goochland and meet phase 1A/1B/1C requirements as outlined by VDH you are eligible for a vaccine appointment with the Chickahominy Health District.

A scheduler from the health district's team will reach out to you with an exact appointment time & appointment confirmation once they have reviewed your survey responses. If you have already been vaccinated, please indicate this on our survey, and we will remove you from our waiting list. If you do not complete this survey, you will still be invited to our clinics, but you might not be offered a date/time that is convenient for you.


How will I be contacted for my COVID-10 vaccination appointment?



Many people have asked what email address or phone number will pop up when they are being contacted to schedule their COVID-19 vaccination appointment.  There are several ways in which you may be contacted.  We have put together a list: 



1) Through our new scheduling system, Databasix, via an email from [email protected]

2) By a phone call from one of our call center representatives or health district team members.  These calls will come from an 804 number.  Callers will give you their name, title and phone number. They will never ask you for your financial information. 

Another important note

You may receive an email with a link to a survey to complete telling us your availability for an upcoming clinic.  This email will come from either: [email protected] or [email protected]   Completing this survey does not confirm your appointment.  It is simply to check your availability.  Your appointment is not confirmed until you receive a confirmation email with both date and time of your scheduled vaccination appointment.  Walk-ups will not be accepted at our clinics.

How do I know which vaccination phase I fall under?  

The Virginia Department of Health website offers a graphic, breaking down each phase as well as an online tool to help you determine which phase of the vaccination campaign you fall under.  That online tool can be found here: https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/covid-19-vaccine/ 

Where can I go to get my vaccine?

The Commonwealth of Virginia is launching a Statewide Vaccine Pre-Registration System to provide a unified and comprehensive process for people in Virginia to pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine. As a result, the Virginia Department of Health has directed all local health districts to close their pre-registration forms and surveys at 5 p.m. on Friday, February 12, and replace them at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, February 16 with a link to the new statewide system at vaccinate.virginia.gov . In the interim, existing waiting lists will be imported to the new system and pre-registration will be temporarily unavailable throughout Virginia. All individuals who have previously filled out a survey or form or signed up for a waitlist to be vaccinated through their local health district will be automatically imported into the new statewide system. Individuals will maintain their current status in the queue, and will be able to search that they are in the new system starting Tuesday morning.

Someone from the health department will contact you to set up your vaccination appointment once it is your turn (based on the phase & vaccine supply).  

If you have already signed-up online or other the phone, there is no need to call or complete the survey again.  

How do I register to get my COVID vaccine?

Will there be a choice of which COVID vaccine I get? 

No. While there is currently more than one vaccine brand available to Americans, local health departments will likely have only one brand. Vaccine supplies are limited, and you should strongly consider accepting whichever COVID-19 vaccine is available to you. In general, side effects and effectiveness for the currently available vaccines are very similar.  

I have already signed-up to receive my vaccine, when will someone contact me to schedule my appointment?

Someone from the health department will contact you as soon as it is your turn and when vaccine supplies are available.  In the meantime, we ask that you check your spam email folder and check for any missed calls or voicemails from numbers you don’t recognize.  Some scheduling emails and phone calls are being missed.  

I registered for my vaccine on the VDH website, do I need to register again through my local health district?

No.  If you have already registered online through another VDH website, you do not need to register a second time.    

I think I registered online but never received a confirmation email.

Who is staffing the Hanover County COVID-19 Call Center?

The Hanover County COVID-19 Call Center is being staffed by Hanover County employees, Goochland County employees and volunteers.  

Where can I get tested for COVID-19?

How many vaccines have been given to date?

Will there be any accommodations at the vaccination site for those will impaired mobility? 

Accessibility will vary depending on location, however, the health department does try to accommodate those with mobility issues.  Please discuss any special needs with your appointment scheduler or alert a parking attendant when you arrive at the vaccination center.  

Once I arrive at a vaccination center, how will I know where to park or where to go?  Will I remain in my vehicle?    

Protocol for vaccination clinics vary from location to location, however, for events held by Chickahominy Health District/Hanover Fire EMS, there will be parking attendants instructing residents where to park and explain to them when they can enter the building. 

How early do I arrive before the appointment time?  Will I be waiting hours like at the RIR event?  

You should arrive at the vaccination center at the time of your appointment (not earlier).  We will do everything we can to minimize the wait time, however, there are sometimes unforeseen circumstances that may arise that could result in a longer wait time.  It is our hope that residents will only need to wait about the same amount of time they would expect to wait at a routine medical appointment.   

How many other people will be at the vaccination clinic at the same time as me? 

It’s difficult to determine how many other people will be at the vaccination clinic at the same time.  We hope to increase the number of vaccinations per hour we administer as we get further along in the process.  There will always be systems in place to ensure proper social distancing.   

Can I request my vaccination be administered at the old Food Lion location in Ashland? 

If the location of your vaccination appointment does not work well for you, you can decline the appointment and hope that a future clinic appointment will be available soon at the location of your choice.  However, at this time, we cannot honor requests for specific locations.  

I used the same email address to sign myself and my spouse up for the vaccination.  My invitation email does not specify who it is intended for, so how will I know?  

The health department is working to have a name listed on the invitation email, however, in the meantime, if there is no name listed, it is up to you which spouse uses the first scheduling email (right now, it is usually for the oldest member of your household, specifically those 75 years and older).  If you listed one email for both spouses, you should receive two emails, however, they may arrive at different times. 

When will I receive a call/notification of an appointment? 

If you have already signed-up to receive the vaccination and supplied an email address, you will receive an email with scheduling instructions when it’s your turn and as vaccinations supplies are available.  If you did not supply an email address, someone will call you to schedule your appointment.  The health department is currently vaccinating Phase 1A and beginning to vaccinate those in Phase 1B. Since Phase 1B accounts for about half of the state’s population, it could take weeks or months to get all those who are currently eligible to be scheduled and vaccinated.  Please be patient.  

Why are other people getting vaccinations, and I am not?

Currently the health department is beginning to schedule and vaccinate those in Phase 1A and 1B.  Phase 1B is a large portion of the state’s population, making up about half of Virginia’s residents.  Since the current group is so large and at this time vaccine supplies are less than the current demand, it could takes weeks or more to get all those in Phase 1B vaccinated.  The health department is prioritizing those who are at higher risk within Phase 1B, such as frontline essential workers as well as older adults with serious/high risk health conditions.  

What happens if I can’t make the first vaccine appointment? 

The Chickahominy Health District will continue to invite residents to future clinics, if they missed their first appointment.

How much will the vaccination cost me?

There is no charge to the resident for the COVID-19 vaccine through our vaccination clinics.  

How will I know my registration was received?  

You can now confirm your name is on the list in the new Virginia Department of Health pre-registration system at vaccinate.virginia.gov. Use the link at the top to "Check the List".    

“When can we expect those between 16 -64 years of age with serious medical conditions to be vaccinated?”

As of February 11, 2021 the Chickahominy Health District is currently vaccinating all those in priority group 1a and those in the beginning of priority group 1b. This includes health care personnel, people 75 and older, and people 65 and older with high-risk medical conditions, law enforcement, and teachers/childcare.

As the population above becomes significantly vaccinated (roughly 70-80% of those wishing to be vaccinated) and as sufficient vaccine supplies become more available, vaccination efforts will expand to include: all of priority group 1b, including people 16*- 64 with certain conditions or disabilities, people 65 and older, and other frontline essential workers in priority group 1b.

*Our health district has the Moderna vaccine at this time, so we aren’t able to vaccine anyone under the age of 18 years old. 

Hanover County opens COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic

January 29, 2021

Hanover County Government has opened a COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic with the goal of helping the Health Department to administer vaccine distribution. The vaccination clinic is located in the former Food Lion building in the Ashland Junction Shopping Center, 140 Junction Drive, Ashland VA 23005. 

“Hanover County is committed to doing everything we can to provide vaccinations to our residents that are interested or want one,” said County Administrator John A. Budesky. “Working with the Chickahominy Health District and Hanover Fire/EMS, we continue to look for ways to support the process and make it more efficient.  Having a dedicated clinic is an important step in meeting this need, and we are grateful to Food Lion for supporting our community in this way.”  

The County’s vaccination team and Chickahominy Health District staff will vaccinate as many people as possible based on the supply of the vaccine.  The clinic will not be open daily and hours of operation will vary, depending on the week, and appointments will be required to get vaccinated. No walk-in or drop-in vaccination opportunities are available at this time.

“If the vaccinations are not yet being distributed to the group you are in, we will put your name on the list and reach out to you when your group’s turn has arrived,” said Deputy County Administrator Jim Taylor, referring to the sign up process. “We realize that people want information, and they want to know when they can receive the vaccine. We are working as fast as we can to provide more opportunities to our residents in the weeks and months to come.”

In addition, Hanover County has established a COVID-19 Call Center with the number 804-365-3240. If you have not already filled out the Health District’s vaccine inquiry form, employees staffing the Call Center will help you determine which vaccine group you are in and submit your information. It is on the basis of this information that the Health Department will place you in the appropriate vaccination category and contact you when you are eligible for an appointment. The Call Center can also assist our residents without email or internet access.

The Chickahominy Health District will move its clinic to the Ashland Junction space on March 1 to combine forces and create efficiencies. Hanover County is also participating in regional vaccination clinics.

Hanover County’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic in the former Food Lion location is being managed by Hanover Fire/EMS with support from the Chickahominy Health District and a vaccine project team made up of County employees and volunteers. 

“We have some limitations in terms of supply of the vaccine itself,” Budesky said at a news conference on Friday, January 29. “But we have no limitations on the commitment of our employees and volunteers to make this our Number One priority. We want every resident who wants a vaccine to get a vaccine and we will work at this until the need is addressed.”

Sean Davis, Chairman of the Hanover County Board of Supervisors, said “I don’t know how long it will take before every Virginian and every Hanoverian who wants a COVID-19 vaccination will be able to get one. To be frank, I suspect it will be several months” because of limitations on vaccine supply. “But I do promise you that we will continue to be pro-active in doing everything we can to get people through this safely.” Davis emphasized that it was the Board’s #1 priority.

Joining Davis and Budesky at the January 29 press conference was Dr. Dr. Tom Franck, Director of the Chickahominy Health District, which includes Hanover County as well as Goochland, New Kent and Charles City counties. Franck said that Virginia is rising in the rankings of number of residents receiving the vaccine. “Our goal is to be #1,” Franck said. “The way we get there is through partnerships like this one with Hanover County, Hanover Fire/EMS, Hanover Public Schools and the Town of Ashland.”

Franck said the vaccine supply increased by 16-17% this week and he expects that improvement to continue.

Hanover County establishes call center for COVID-19 vaccination questions

January 20, 2021

Effective January 20, Hanover County has set up a call center to answer questions related to COVID-19. The number is 804-365-3240, and it will be open Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Voice messages left in the mailbox after hours will be returned the next business day. This is being done in coordination with the Chickahominy Health District, which includes Goochland, New Kent and Charles City.

“Our staff will be prepared to provide the most current information related to the Coronavirus, including the vaccine,” said Deputy County Administrator Jim Taylor. Referring to the Virginia Department of Health’s (VDH) priority groups, Taylor said that the call center could help people determine which group they are in and sign them up for alerts and notifications. The call center may be beneficial to people who don’t have internet access or an email address.

Currently, first responders and healthcare professionals are receiving the vaccination. Regional events at the Richmond International Raceway are taking place this week to provide many teachers an opportunity to be vaccinated against the Coronavirus. Offering the vaccine to all Hanover County teachers remains a priority.

“If the vaccinations are not yet being distributed to the group you are in, we will put your name on the list and reach out to you when your group’s turn has arrived,” Taylor said. “We realize that people want information, and they want to know when they can receive the vaccine. We are working as fast as we can to provide more opportunities to our residents in the weeks and months to come.”

In coordination with the Chickahominy Health District, Hanover County also will be staffing its own COVID-19 vaccination clinic. An announcement on that will be coming soon. Last week County Administrator John A. Budesky said the clinic would continue “until every resident who wants a vaccine gets a vaccine, or until there is sufficient availability in the marketplace.” The need for a call center was identified as one of the greatest needs at this time, and we are pleased to work with our partners to make this available.

Hanover County to expand COVID-19 Vaccination Opportunities

January 14, 2021

John A. Budesky, County Administrator, presented to the Board of Supervisors on January 13 a plan to expand and create new Hanover County COVID-19 vaccine clinics. The new clinic(s) would have the goal of providing COVID-19 vaccinations to 1,000 additional people a day, in collaboration with the Chickahominy Health District and other regional vaccine initiatives. Details of the plan, including a location or locations, needs to be finalized, but Budesky envisioned the clinic continuing “until every resident who wants a vaccine gets a vaccine, or until there is sufficient availability in the marketplace.”

Budesky said Hanover Fire/EMS, in coordination with the Chickahominy Health District’s COVID-19 Response Team, would manage the plan, supported by a vaccine project team made up of County employees. He estimated about 10 employees will need to be dedicated to the task over a period of about 90+ days. Hanover would also participate in regional vaccine initiatives.

Hanover also will provide support to the Chickahominy Health District, which began administering vaccinations to first responders and healthcare professionals on January 5, 2021. Additionally, Hanover will support the health district by establishing a vaccine call center for residents to get more information on the COVID-19 vaccine or to register for future vaccination clinics.

Next steps include site selection for the vaccination clinic, developing partnerships, and sharing the vaccination call center information as well as providing regular updates on vaccine progress to the public.

The Hanover County COVID-19 vaccination plan will follow the Virginia Department of Health’s vaccination schedule. Central Virginia is currently vaccinating those in Phase 1a. Phase 1a includes healthcare personnel and residents/staff of long-term care facilities. Virginia’s Phase 1b includes many types of frontline essential workers; people aged 75 years and older; and those in correctional facilities. The Chickahominy Health District is partnering with other Richmond Area health districts to begin vaccination clinics for the first three categories of essential workers in 1b starting next week, including K-12 teachers/staff. The following phase, Phase 1c, includes other essential workers; those aged 65 and older; and those aged 16 and over with underlying medical conditions.

Dr. Thomas Franck, Director of the Chickahominy Health District, which includes Hanover County, also presented to the Board of Supervisors on January 13. Dr. Franck said 2,846 COVID-19 vaccinations have been given to Hanover County residents since the vaccination program began.

Hanover County is working hard to expedite the process for senior residents, especially those ages 75 and older. Vaccines for residents of nursing homes are being handled separately.
