Paying Water & Sewer bills

There are six ways to pay your bill:

1. Online through your bank’s bill payment service. Payment can take up to five business days to process. There is no additional charge for making a payment this way.

2. Automatic withdrawal. Payment will be automatically withdrawn from your bank account every two months. Fill out the utility pay application to sign up.

3. By mail:

  • Mail payment to Hanover County Dept. of Public Utilities, P.O. Box 470, Hanover, VA 23069.
  • Include the remittance stub from your bill. If you do not have your remittance stub, write your account number on your check before mailing. 
  • If you do not know your account number, call (804) 365-6024.

4. In person:

  • Our office is located at 7516 County Complex Road, Hanover, VA 23069. We are in the Administration Building. Our office hours are 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.
  • We accept:
    • Checks
    • Debit and/or Credit Cards:
      • American Express
      • Discover
      • MasterCard
      • VISA
  • A convenience fee will be charged for using a credit card. There is no fee for using a debit card.
  • Cash can only be accepted at the Treasurer’s Office, located at 7497 County Complex Road in the Wickham Building. The Treasurer's office hours are 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.
  • We also have a drop box located in our office and behind the Wickham Building. The Wickham Building’s drop box is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

5. Online using a credit or debit card

  • You will be charged a convenience fee for using this option.
  • You must have your account number to use this option.
  • Payment is received in our office the following business day.
  • The website will ask you for a jurisdiction code. Hanover County’s jurisdiction code is 1089.
  • The website accepts the following debit and/or credit cards:
    • American Express
    • Discover
    • MasterCard
    • VISA
  • Once you have paid and received a confirmation number, a confirmation number will also be sent to our office.
  • You do not have to register to make a one-time payment. You may instead select Online Payments.

6. By phone

  • Call (804) 365-6024.
  • Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • You will be charged a convenience fee for using this option.
  • You must have your account number to use this option.
  • Your account number can be found on your water and sewer bill. Enter the first half before the dash, press pound, then enter the second half and press pound again.
  • You will be able to make a payment after hearing your account information.
  • Payment is received in our office immediately.
  • The phone system accepts the following debit and/or credit cards:
