Treasurer's Office

Overview

The treasurer is the custodian of all public monies of the county. The Treasurer’s Office is responsible for ensuring that local funds are collected, received, invested, safeguarded and properly disbursed. The treasurer is a constitutional officer who reports directly to the people of Hanover County.

The Treasurer’s Office is organized into three divisions:

  • Customer Service – oversees the collection of current personal property and real estate taxes, business license fees, storm water fees, fire alarm fees, estimated income tax, and fees.  Issues dog tag licenses, and landfill decals.   • Collections – oversees the collection of delinquent taxes, as well as all delinquent debt owed to Hanover County. Email collections@hanovercounty.gov for collection inquiries. Located in Room 114 of the Wickham Building. Send all correspondence to PO Box 430, Hanover, VA 23069.
  • Accounting - manages the County’s banking and investment relationships, reconciles county bank, bond and investment accounts, as well as tax revenues.  Email traccounting@hanovercounty.gov for banking and investment inquiries. Located in Room 123 of the Wickham Building. Send all correspondence to PO Box 200, Hanover, VA 23069.

Legal authority for the treasurer’s duties and responsibilities is governed by the Constitution of Virginia, the Code of Virginia, local ordinances, case law, court decisions and opinions of the Attorney General.
