Explorer Post

Explorer Post 606 is a program open to young adults who live in Hanover County who are interested in a possible career in law enforcement.  Members work with Sheriff's Office deputies and receive law enforcement training and gain experience in leadership roles.

What will I be doing?

  • Receiving law enforcement training
  • Gaining leadership experience
  • Providing community service by assisting deputies in:
  • Crime prevention activities
  • Fingerprinting of children
  • Traffic control at community events
  • Role playing for law enforcement academy  

This is a great way to decide if you want a law enforcement career and to prepare you for one. Many Hanover deputies were once Explorers.   Many others have used the skills they learned in other professions.
 

What are the requirements to join?

  • Be 14 to 20 years old
  • Resident of Hanover County, VA
  • C average in school
  • Good moral character
  • No criminal history

When do we meet?

  • Monday nights from 7-9 p.m.
  • Occasional weekends for more expanded training
  • You must attend at least 75% of the meetings and do 4 hours of community service each month
