Citizens Police Academy

Program Overview

A 10-week course geared to educating the public on the many facets of their law enforcement agency.  Participants will hear individual unit presentations from deputies and have the opportunity to participate in hands-on exercises.  One class will be held on a Saturday at the firing range, where students will experience various activities and demonstrations.  Participants will also have the opportunity to schedule a ride-along with a patrol deputy during the session.

Program Details

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be a resident, business owner or county employee
  • Criminal background check will be conducted
  • Yearly session held in the fall (mid-September through mid-November)
  • Class meets each Tuesday night from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office
  • Applications are accepted on a continual basis
  • Notified in early August of acceptance

Successful completion of the CPA offers eligibility for participation in the department’s Volunteer Program.
