Planning Commission

Purpose:The Code of Virginia authorizes the Planning Commission to prepare a comprehensive plan for the community, as well as establish tools of plan implementation including a subdivision ordinance, capital improvement program and zoning ordinance. The commission serves as an advisory agent to the Board of Supervisors.

Scope:

The commission holds public hearings on all rezoning cases and conditional use permit requests and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors. In some cases, the commission is directed to review building elevations, site layout, signage or other design items to ensure consistency with proffers accepted during the rezoning process. The commission is also responsible for the approval of certain preliminary subdivision plats and amendments to preliminary plats.

Seven citizens, appointed by the Board of Supervisors, who represent each of the seven magisterial districts.
